Proclamation from the City of Costa Mesa, CA USA

WHEREAS, the Aikido Federation of California was established in the City of Costa Mesa, California, in 1980 under the direction of its Founder and Chief Instructor, Sensei David Dye; and

WHEREAS, in 1990 the Aikido Federation of California was presented with its formal name of Shuyokan by Soke Gozo Shioda Sensei of the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation and was the first Yoshinkai Aikido Dojo to be registered in the United States of America and the second to be registered in the world outside Japan; and

WHEREAS, in 1996 the International Shuyokan Aikido Federation U.S.A., was founded by Sensei David Dye to create an organization of support for the teaching and understanding of the Martial Arts and to license, issue rank, and register qualified Black Belts and members of Martial Arts Schools throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Martial Artists historically protected those who have been unable to protect themselves; Sensei David Dye, who began his Martial Arts training in 1962, has strived to keep those ideals alive and perpetuate the philosophy of helping the weak overcome their weaknesses and develop into strong healthy citizens through the study of Martial Arts;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GARY MONAHAN, Mayor of the City of Costa Mesa, do hereby proclaim April 7, 2000, in honor of

SHUYOKAN'S 20TH YEAR OF MARTIAL ARTS TEACHING
AND
SENSEI DAVID DYE'S 38TH YEAR OF MARTIAL ARTS STUDY

in our City, and encourage the citizens of this community to join with me in recognizing the significance of this historical date.
